A fluid bed dryer is a kind of equipment often used in the pharmaceutical industry to decrease the moisture content of medicinal powders and granules. Drying is required for wet granules to compress into tablets and adjust their viscous and sticky properties. FBD can remove excess moisture from a variety of materials, and its operating principle is very accurate and focuses on drying the materials without affecting their physical properties. Drying is often the last stage in the unit process before compressing into tablet form and packing.
Process Operation of the Fluid Bed Dryer: The Fluid Bed Dryer operates by feeding material onto a shaking steel bed and circulating hot air through it. The bed of material is fluidized by the high-pressure hot air flow, which contacts each particle. The airflow is adjusted throughout the length of the dryer to enhance fluidization for wet and sticky materials. As the material passes through, it progressively loses moisture until the necessary dryness is reached. When the necessary dryness is reached, the material is transferred to a chilling zone. In this step, the hot air is replaced with cold air, which lowers the temperature to the desired level.
